Workpackages
WP1: Competence mapping of scattered display expertise to identify strengths and weaknesses of the European advanced displays community and to link together European firms and research institutes to enhance co-operation and collaboration. Research projects, display expertise of European research organisations, and industrial capabilities are collected and integrated in an internet-based, searchable database. The input data provided by all organisations will be reviewed before dissemination. The entry into the adria database is free of charge for all organisations active in the field of electronic displays. The resulting database will be accessible for those who provided valuable inputs. These will also have access to Synthesis Reports issued during the adria project.
WP2: Creation of a European Advanced Displays Roadmap (ADR) to identify technology gaps and market opportunities and to inspire new display innovation and funding programs. Starting with the condensed information from the competence mapping (workpackage 1), experts in display and related technologies from all over Europe are invited to join the adria roadmapping workshops, which will be organized on a regular basis (2 workshops in the first year, 4 workshops in the second year). Through the discussions and exchange of views during these workshops, the ADR will be developed. The adria staff will draft working versions of the Roadmap. All organisations are invited to contribute to the Advanced Displays Roadmap. The participation in the workshops is free of charge. In return for their effort (e.g. time, travel expenses) all contributors will gain free, unlimited access to the Roadmap, helping them to align their business and research strategies with the most likely and profitable future scenarios.
WP3: Development of a coherent European approach to FPD education and training and its implementation to facilitate access to the critical human resource of trained, and well-educated scientists and engineers, essential for a sustainable future development of the European display branch. adria will implement an "Advanced Displays Training Program", organizing further education and training courses tailored to industry professionals. Employees from organizations actively contributing to the workpackages 1 & 2 will be charged reduced rates to join the adria training program. Moreover, a dedicated taskforce will establish a reference curriculum for a "European Masters Degree on Advanced Displays".
WP4: Consolidation and enhancement of electronic display standardisation knowledge to create awareness of existing standards, identify gaps and industry needs in standards and to promote the application of standards. It is not intended, however, to create own standards within adria. Two standards working groups will be established (Manufacturing Equipment & Materials and Recycling Standards; Metrology, Ergonomics & Design), open to all interested organizations. The standardization meetings will be held together with the roadmapping meetings, described above.
WP5: For promotion of the adria activities, dissemination of information about adria results among the European display community, and for providing information about other interesting news and events, an internet-based information platform will be implemented. Moreover, a quarterly newsletter will be issued, and the Eurodisplay conference will be extended to a biennial basis.
WP6: Establishment of a permanent European Platform that will serve the European FPD community and that represents the European display community with a single and articulate voice, creating an interface to other national and international organizations, funding bodies, the European Commission, and the public. It is the goal that this association-type organization continues its activities also after the adria project will have been finished.
